[Class 20 (i)] A silo for storage or treatment of grain comprises a series -of chambers disposed at different levels with communicating passages so arranged that any of the lower chambers may be filled by gravity from any chamber placed above it. In one form, Fig. 1, the chambers I, II &c., are superposed about a central shaft f which is provided with entrance and exit apertures e, d respectively leading to the chambers. A cylindrical sliding stop valve g with open ends slides in the passage to seal any apertures at the same level, and the entrance apertures are provided with doors l pivotal about their lower edges so that they can be inclined inwardly of the shaft to direct grain into that compartment. In a modification the silo is of rectangular section and feeding and transfer passages are disposed at the ends of a diagonal. In a further modification, shown in Figs. 9 and 11, the chambers A, B, &c. are disposed in the form of a single or multiple spiral with connecting apertures 1, 2, &c. between laterally adjacent chambers and supplementary passages x, y &c., between chambers vertically aligned, the apertures or passages being chosen according to which lower chamber is to be filled by the grain in any upper chamber. A number of silos with multiple chambers may be joined at the ends of the diagonals so that one feeding, passage may suffice for two silos and the grain may be transferred from silo to silo as well as from chamber to chamber in the same silo. Alternatively, the silos may comprise chambers disposed laterally to one another and with doubleinclined floors r, s, Fig. 15, so that the grain is deflected in two directions at right-angles when flowing from one chamber to the next.
