Abstract

481,082. Glucose. DARBOVEN, W., (trading as DARBOVEN, J. W., [Firm of]). Aug. 9, 1937, No. 21851. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1936. [Class 127] Cellulose is hydrolyzed by means of a cooled solution of hydrochloric acid in an organic solvent in a process in which the solution is circulated continuously through the vessel containing the cellulose charge. A vessel 1 containing the charge is provided with a stirrer 14. An organic solvent solution of hydrochloric acid is circulated by pump 5 through the charge and through a cooling vessel 8 and a filter plate 4. Hydrochloric acid gas, to replace that consumed in the hydrolysis, is fed in through a filter nozzle 11. When hydrolysis is complete the charge is dropped and discharged by conveyer 17.
