Abstract
480,999. Ice - making. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1937, No. 5814. Convention date, March 2, 1936. [Class 29] A freezing-tray for domestic refrigerators comprises a series of flexible metal cups or moulds 11 assembled together as by welding along their contacting edges 12, 13 to form a unitary structure which is deformable as a whole to facilitate the loosening of the ice blocks. The cups have corrugations 15 to render them individually flexible and the unit may be contracted and expanded by the action of a central rotatable shaft 21 journalled at the front in a plate 24 attached to the first pair of cups and in intermediate plates 22, and screwthreaded at its rear end in a boss 26 of a plate attached to the rear cups. A collar 27 at the front end of the shaft retained by a ring 29 prevents endwise movement. The cups may be contracted before filling with water and released for expansion after the ice has formed, or may be expanded first and allowed to contract to release the ice.
