Abstract
480,506. Making sheet glass. FRAZIERSIMPLEX, Inc. June 25, 1937, No. 17738. Convention date, March 29. [Class 56] Relates to the method of making sheet glass by drawing a sheet from a mass of molten glass contained in a tank furnace, as described in Specification 442,178. The walls 10 of the tank are provided with a layer 9 of heat-insulating material, but the insulation is reduced or interrupted at 11 in the plane of the rising sheet S. The glass within the tank is chilled in the plane of the sheet, and the position of the meniscus at the base of the sheet is stabilixed. In a modified construction, the floor of the tank is composed of two parts on different levels and connected by a vertical riser, and the riser is left free of a covering of insulating material. U.S.A. Specification 1,339,229 also is referred to.
