[Class 141] [Also in Group XVI] A method of manufacturing neckties consists in impressing a plurality of fold lines in the fabric blank from which the tie is to be made while the blank is unfolded. For this purpose, the necktie blank, preferably cut on the bias, is placed between the co-operating die members 1, 3 of a pressing machine, Fig. 1, the die member 1 having a pattern plate 4 provided with a plurality of ridges 5, and the member 3 having a pattern plate 7 provided with a plurality of grooves 8 corresponding with the ridges 5, perforations 6, 9 being provided in the plates 4, 7 so that steam may be caused to issue from the perforations along the lines of the grooves. If desired, a vacuum may be induced in either of the members 1, 3, or a connection provided so that air pressure may be induced in either of the members 1, 3. The necktie blank, Fig. 4, after being impressed with the fold lines ab, cd, ef, is first folded along the lines ab and cd, and then folded along the line ef. In this way, the outer cut edges gh, ij of the necktie blank are concealed, and the outer panels of the blank. are concealed between the inner panels thereof. The tie is completed by stitching as at k, l. In a modification, the invention may be applied to an eight-fold tie.
