Abstract
479,953. Automatic circuit-breakers. DEWAR, G., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 15, 1936, No. 25164. [Class 38 (v)] To avoid hesitation or reversal of contactmovement by electromagnetic forces during closure of a circuit-breaker, the movement of the operating-lever of which is communicated to the actuating lever through trip-free mechanism, the operating-lever is connected with a flywheel which is thereby caused to rotate during the closing-operation in such a manner that if the speed of movement of the operating-lover is reduced, the continued rotation of the flywheel due to its inertia will release the trip-free mechanism. The operating-lever 7 is adapted to be coupled to the actuating-lever 5 by means of a catch 8 on the latter engaging a roller 9 on a trip-lever 10 pivoted at 11 to lever 7. Also pivoted at 11 is a link 12 which is connected to a rack-bar 13 in engagement with a pinion 18, which has a spring cushioning connection 17 with a flywheel 15 carried on shaft 16. The rack is held up to the pinion by a roller 19 carried by a casing 21 which can swing about axis 16. When 7 is lowered to close the breaker, a part 22 thereon engages and drives the link 12 and rack, so rotating the flywheel clockwise. If during this movement, 7 is unduly checked, the inertia of the flywheel causes the rack to move downwards relatively to lever 7, so that the projection 14 on link 12 engages and deflects the triplever 10. If closure proceeds normally, lever 7 reaches position 71, in which position projection 14 engages an adjustable stop 26 to prevent undesired tripping. The lever 10 can, however, be deflected by the trip-lever 29 of a trip-coil 27. The breaker may alternatively be electrically closed, and may be oil-immersed.
