Abstract

479,489. Tanks. AIVAZ, J. Aug. 5, 1936, No. 21528. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1935. [Class 69 (i)] A tank comprises a shell made of a thin metal sheet which is reinforced by means of channel-members 4, Fig. 4, arranged so as to be closed by the shell itself and connected by cross-bracing-members 10. The channelmembers are arranged longitudinally and each have a turned-out flange along each edge and a longitudinal web for their attachment to the shell and the members 10. One end 6 of the tank is held in position by gussets 9 which connect the members thereon to those on the sides and also to a hollow girder 11 which is connected to the other end 7 by spring blades 12, Fig. 6; the latter are secured to a member 4 fixed on the end and curry projections 13, which when the springs are inserted in the girder, are thrust into engagement with apertures in the walls thereof. In another form, Fig. 9, the central girder is replaced by members secured to the first end and the cross-bracing members. The second end is constituted by panels 18; gussets 9 serve to hold in place the end panels between which and the central panel are secured part partitions 19 which are secured to members 4 upon the shell. In all forms the ends and composite panels are flanged and soldered, and the reinforcements, gussets and crossmembers are secured by welding, riveting, soldering or brazing. The channel-members may be built of a plurality of bars and their section may be varied. Further additional obliquely-arranged reinforcements may be provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subjectmatter of Specification 479,498. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
