Abstract
<PICT:0479106/III/1> In order to separate the major portion of a low-boiling material from a mixture containing a large proportion of the said material and a small proportion of a considerably higher boiling material, the mixture is heated in an exchanger 4 before being introduced into a low-pressure evaporator 6, the liquid residue from which passes through a pipe still 12 which heats it to a high temperature and delivers it to a high-pressure evaporator 10, the vapours from which serve to heat the exchanger 4. A small proportion, for example one per cent, of the liquid leaving through pipe 16 may be returned to the evaporators through pipes 20 and 22. The process may be used in the recovery of solvent from the mixture obtained in the solvent extraction of oils. This mixture will, for example, be composed of a large proportion of solvent boiling at about 300 DEG F., and a small proportion of oil boiling at about 700 DEG F. The pressures in the evaporators 6 and 10 may be 17 and 60 pounds absolute respectively.
