Abstract
478,352. Vehicle sanding and like apparatus. TALBOT, B. (Talbot, H. [in part]) June 15, 1936, No. 16639. [Class 103 (iii)] In a vehicle, sanding or like device, a single manually-controlled member is provided which can be operated by the driver of the vehicle to open and close gates or shutters controlling flow of sand &c. from nozzles arranged near the vehicle wheels or the member may, alternatively, be set manually to operate the gates or shutters simultaneously with the movement of the brake-operating pedal or lever. As shown, pipes b having outlets in front of the rear wheels lead from sand-boxes mounted on either side of the rear part of the vehicle behind or beneath the passenger seats or in the luggage boot, a fish-tail shape nozzle c at the outlet end of each pipe being closed normally by a torsion-spring-actuated or weighted, hinged shutter, or bv a sliding shutter operable by a rod or wire h, arm i, rock-shaft j, arm k, and cord l from a slide bar n mounted in brackets q on the steering column. The slide bar may be moved manually or can be rotated to bring a projection p thereon into the path of the brake pedal o. Instead of the rock-shaft j other arrangements of wire &c. led through tubes or guide eyes or over pulleys may be used to connect the shutters to the bar n or electromagnetic means may be used.
