Abstract
477,995. Sole - moulding machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and BRAY, W. N. July 7, 1936, No. 18796. [Class 17 (i)] The machine described in Specification 400,930 is modified, principally to render it suitable for moulding lipped insoles. The heel end clamping members are of metal, that, 7, to engage the side of the insole subsequently to be laid against the last bottom being convex, and the other concave, the curves being such that the work is overmoulded, to allow for spring-back. The part of the form to engage the fore-part of the sole is cut away and an interchangeable rectangular rubber block 11 substituted, having a raised tongue-shaped portion 15. The toe-end gauge 51 is shortened, the position of the toe-end being taken by a sight along it. A metal clamp part 17 cooperates with the tongue-shaped portion of the form, and a U-shaped strip 19 of sponge rubber is arranged to engage the lip and adjacent. portion of the insole. The strip 19 is secured to a plate 21 interchangeably latched to a plate 23 carried by guide rods 29 and urged downwardly, relatively to the part 17, by a spring 41 adjustable in strength by a hand wheel 39. One end of the strip carries a thin strip 20 of rubber or thin metal long enough to be engaged by the shank pressing tool 5 described in the prior Specification, for shaping the outer edge of the insole at the joint. The insole lip L enters the sponge rubber without damage.
