Abstract

477,834. Pneumatic conveyers. HESSLING, W. June 30, 1936, No. 18194. [Class 78 (i)] Solid carbon dioxide in small pieces is transported, for example from the place of manufacture to a place of storage, by a current of gas of which at least one half consists of carbon dioxide. In the apparatus shown, the " dry ice " is made by a plunger press 8 and carbon-dioxide gas is admitted through an ejector 15, the carbon-dioxide gas being derived through a pipe 11 from the pipe 9 supplying liquid carbon-dioxide to the press. An independent supply may be given by the pipe 13 and an additional supply of gas may be given through a pipe 16. The dry ice is carried to a storage silo B from which it is conveyed by a screw 1 to another pipe 5 forming part of a closed circuit in which carbon dioxide circulates and communicating with a chamber C in which the dry ice is packed.
