Abstract

477,736. Toy sound - reproducing devices. COKER, A. W., and KING & JARRETT, Ltd. Feb. 10, 1937, No. 3935. [Class 40 (ii)] Relates to toy gramophones comprising a conediaphragm g in a shallow cylindrical casing c, through the bottom of which a record tape i is pulled transversely, as described in U.S.A. Specification 1,998,149. According to the invention, (1) a perforated disc l is arranged over the diaphragm, or equivalent perforations are formed in the casing ; (2) rubber tubes or bushes j are provided in the wall of the casing for guiding the record tape and protecting it from wear ; (3) a knife-edged stylus h is used and is sweated to or clinched into a projection f<2> at the base of the diaphragm ; and (4) a central screw k is provided beneath the record tape to adjust the pressure between the stylus and the record tape. This record is guided by a metal strip d fastened by lugs to the casing, and its accidental withdrawal is prevented by metal clips at its ends. The diaphragm comprises a cone g of paper attached to a resilient arm f fastened by means of tongues straddling the strip d.
