Abstract

476,512. Foundry moulds. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. July 1, 1936, No. 18234. Convention date, July 1, 1935. [Class 83 (i)] Pistons are cast in two vertical rows with a riser between the rows, corresponding pistons in each row being connected by a shrinkage member joined by lateral runners to the riser. Duplicate moulds 29, 30 are arranged in a carriage 24 with pivoted lid 25 closed by a screw. The moulds 30 are registered by pin-andslot means and contain channels 13, 14, 15 for the shrinkage member, small section lateral runners, and riser, respectively. The mould is suspended on trunnions from a conveyer and can be swung from loading to a casting position with the riser 15 vertical. The carriage trunnions are out of centre to provide for the self-locking of the carriage. When metal is poured down the riser, the runners 14 solidify before the members 13 and metal is drawn from each end of the shrinkage members 13 to provide castings of equal weight.
