Abstract

476,310. Filtering gases ; packing joints. GROOM, S. L. June 3, 1936, Nos. 15575 and 28596. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] Air filtering media are carried by horizontal partitions 4, the margins of which depend into troughs 11 containing liquid sealing medium. The troughs may be provided with priming tubes 25 and drain cocks. A flange 10 on the cover may be similarly sealed. The wall of the chamber may be formed in sections joined by integral sealing troughs. The filtering medium may be contained in canisters 16 which may be formed in two parts screwed together and provided with packing 22 or with liquid sealing flanges 23 dipping into troughs on the partitions 4. The seal may be produced by using a solidifying liquid such as pitch, wax, or glue, or may comprise a crust of such substance covering a layer of oil or aqueous glycerine.
