Abstract
476,092. Vibrating - blade propellers. VALENTE, A. March 12, 1937, No. 7332. [Class 114] A vibrating-blade propeller for boats is provided with an adjustable non-yielding stop control of the limits of the angular movement of the propelling blade with respect to the rocking arm. The blade 21 is carried by a spindle 20 on the end of an arm 17 which is itself pivotally mounted on a plate 16 between cheeks 18, this plate 16 being disposed on the upper end of a spindle 15 driven by a cross belt 13 from a shaft 9.which is suitably oscillated by a handle 10. The top of the blade spindle 20 is provided with a plate 22 which is cut away so that its surfaces 23 act as stop members to limit the angular motion of the blade, and this is in turn controlled by a member 24 which is of wedge formation and adjustably movable either by rotation on a spindle or longitudinally, so that the contacting surfaces 23 are given a particular final angular position. This adjusting member 24 is provided with notches 25 with which a spring catch 26 co-operates, for holding it in definite positions. The blade itself may be formed of horizontal corrugations 21. At the stern of the boat, a stabilizing vane 6, is mounted on a horizontal transverse pivot 7, and secured thereto is a line 8 whereby the stabilizer can be raised out of the water when not required. In a modification the blade 16 is oscillated by a power motor.
