Abstract

475,409. Brick &c. kilns. GEYER, A. March 13, 1936, No. 7672. [Class 51 (ii)] In a continuous multichamber kiln for burning bricks &c. of the kind in which each chamber 1 is fitted with rail tracks 3 permitting the introduction and withdrawal of trollies 4 carrying floor sections 5 on which the goods 6 are loaded, alternate chambers are connected by fire-connection flues to provide a double fire circuit. The layout shown in Fig. 1, comprises two banks of chambers 1 provided with rail tracks 3 with which are associated transfer tracks 8 serving for the passage of the trollies 4 from the machine house 9 to the kiln chambers and from the latter to a storageground 10 or loading-place 11. In the double-bank kiln shown in Figs. 1, 15 the goods are introduced into the chambers through the adjacent ends 44 and withdrawn through the opposite ends 45. Each chamber 1 has supports 7 on to which the floor sections 5 can be lowered to permit the trollies to be withdrawn during the drying and burning. When the raw goods possess sufficient rigidity, they are stacked directly on one another, as shown in Fig. 7, but in the case of, for example, wire cut bricks, pallets 16, Fig. 9, each carrying four layers of bricks, are employed, the chamber walls being formed with abutments 15 to support the ends of the pallets when the floor sections 5 are lowered. The pallets are carried by members 17, Fig. 11, mounted on standards 18, the raising and lowering of the sections 4 being effected by two jacks 25 operated simultaneously by a hand-lever 26. To enable the pallets 16 to be readily removed after the drying operation has been completed, the floor sections 5 are provided with elevated portions 28 extending upwardly between the pallets, or alternatively, the lower layer of bricks may be stacked in the manner shown in Fig. 11, in connection with the next higher row of pallets 16. The fire flues connecting alternate chambers 1, 2, 3 .... 16 and 1a, 2a, 3a .... 16a of the kiln are shown at 46, Fig. 15, while, in the roof of each chamber there is provided a hot-air flue 49, Fig. 2, these flues communicating with main hot-air flues 50 running parallel with the outer sides of each bank of chambers. Movable pipes 51 serve, when in the position shown in Fig. 2, for the supply of fuel, and when raised permit communication between a chamber and its hot-air flue 49. Smoke or damp-air flues 48, Fig. 2, open into the end portions 47 of the chambers in which a wicket is built up to prevent, when a chamber is in fire, the passage of fire into the flues 48. Modifications are described in which the invention is applied to kilns consisting of a single bank of chambers only. Specifications 446,936 and 476,928 are referred to.
