Abstract

475,241. Parachutes. AEROSTATICA AVORIO, SOC. IN ACCOMANDITA SEMPLICE. March 5, 1937, No. 6623. Convention date, March 6, 1936. [Class 4] In a parachute having rigging lines 5 connected to elastic members 1, 2 surrounding the apex vent, the connection of the rigging lines is such that the elastic members assume a flat position concentric with one another when not under tension and the strength of the attachment of the rigging lines to the elastic members is maintained, even if one of the members break. The elastic rings 1, 2, Fig. 3, are connected by strips of leather 3 and silk 4 surrounded by knots 11 which pass through loops 8 in the rigging lines 5. The line 5 is arranged in the joint between two panels of the canopy and the loop and passes between two small cables 9 sewn round the periphery of the vent. One or more turns 12 of the knots 11 pass inside the strips 3, 4 so that the knot still holds if an elastic ring should break. The stitchings on the vent border are herring-bone. Pieces of rope 18, Fig. 7, may be attached to the rigging lines 14 and the reinforced edge 19 of the canopy to prevent the canopy being torn by the lines. The rope 18 may have two branches attached to the canopy. A reinforcing rope of elastic material may be inserted in rigging lines of tubular form where it is attached to the harness. The harness is connected to the lower eyelet of the rigging lines by two separate loops of tape, each reinforced by an interior rope. The eyelet is formed by binding the rigging lines in bundles.
