Abstract

475,076. Mixing &c. apparatus. DRAKE, L. D., and GARDELLA, W. M. Nov. 11, 1936, No. 30810. [Class 86] [Also in Group VI] An apparatus for mixing or diffusing two or more fluid substances for aerating liquids, froth flotation of ores, &c. comprises a fixed deflector of double conical form and a rotary impeller the blades of which are of wedge section and mounted on a hollow shaft having apertures leading immediately behind the blades which throw the liquid on to radiating and transversely curved fixed blades and thence through a fixed screen. The Figures show a froth flotation apparatus. The double conical deflector 17, 18, Fig. 4, is supported by rods 15 within a vessel A and carries the blades 21 which are transversely curved and are arranged tangentially to the hollow shaft 5 of the impeller. The impeller blades are wedge shaped with the rear face 27c, Fig. 6, at right-angles to the upper surface 27a ; the blades are provided with lips 29, Fig. 7, at their ends. The hub 24 is perforated at 28 behind the blade whereby the vacuum created by the rotation of the blades sucks air or other fluid through the holes 28 from the interior of the shaft. The latter is supplied through a pipe 10 and stuffing box 9, the pipe being fed through valved branch pipes. At the top of the deflector 17, 18 is a screen 20.
