Abstract
<PICT:0475010/III/1> In a cracking process of the kind in which crude oil containing a substantial quantity of natural gasoline is cracked in a coil 6 and the products are passed through a line 10 into the upper portion of an enlarged reaction vessel 11 through which the vaporous and liquid products pass downwardly and are removed together through a valved line 12 into a separator 14, the separated vapours being fractionated in a tower 19 with recovery of gasoline in a cooler 31 and receiver 34, the reflux condensate collected at the bottom of the column 19 is heated in a coil 25 to higher cracking temperatures than those employed in the coil 6 and then introduced through the line 10 into the vessel 11 in sufficient amount to reform the natural gasoline present in that vessel. Temperatures specified for the primary and secondary heating elements are 425--510 DEG C. and 480--570 DEG C. respectively under pressures of the order of 16--55 atmos.
