Abstract
Camphoric acid bis-dialkylamides are prepared by reacting the dichloride of a camphoric acid or the chloride of a monodialkylamide of a camphoric acid with a dialkyl amine. The products possess therapeutic properties. According to the examples: (1) d-camphoric acid is treated with phosphorus pentachloride and the resulting mixture of d-camphoric and l-isocamphoric acid dichlorides then reacted with diethylamine to give a mixture of the bis-diethylamides of the same acids, from which the d-camphoric acid bis-diethylamide may be isolated by crystallization from ligroin; when l-camphoric acid is used as starting material, a mixture of the bis-diethylamides of l-camphoric and d-isocamphoric acids is obtained, from which the l-camphoric acid derivative may be separated; (2) l-isocamphoric acid chloride is converted by interaction with diethylamine into its bis-diethylamide; (3) d-camphoric acid is treated at ordinary temperature with phosphorus pentachloride and the d-camphoryl chloride so prepared is reacted with diethylamine to form the bis-diethylamide; in a similar way the bis-dimethylamide, -dibutylamide, -diamylamide and -methylethylamide of d-camphoric acid may be obtained; (4) d-camphoric acid monodiethylamide is heated with thionyl chloride and the product added in small quantities to a benzene solution of diethylamine to produce the bis-diethylamide of l-camphoric acid; by using dimethylamine the a -diethylamide-b -dimethylamide is obtained, and by using methylethylamine the a -diethylamide-b -methylethylamide results; (5) d-camphoric acid a -dimethylamide is treated with thionyl chloride and then with diethylamine whereby the a -dimethylamide-b -diethylamide is produced; when dimethylamine is used the bis-dimethylamide is obtained.
