Abstract
473,929. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen) Oct. 30, 1936, Nos. 29567/36 and 3486/37. [Class 39 (i)] In a lamp having an inner discharge envelope surrounded by a hermetically sealed jacket containing luminescent material excited by the discharge, the space between the jacket and the envelope contains a substantial quantity of oxidizing gas, whereby the decrease of efficiency of the luminescent material under the action of reducing gases liberated within the jacket is substantially prevented. The gas may be oxygen at 10-20 mms. or air at 50-100 mms.; an equal quantity of helium may be added, to increase the thermal conductivity, the total pressure being, for example, 20 mms. The outer jacket, resembling an incandescent lamp bulb, may be coated internally with luminescent material such as zinc-cadmium sulphide, and contain a quartz high pressure metal vapour lamp. The leading-in wires, where they pass through the jacket space, may be coated with a carbide to prevent discharges between them. Specification 431,651 is referred to.
