Abstract

<PICT:0473161/IV/1> The clothes receptacle of a rotary washing or dyeing machine is stopped in a predetermined position by the application of a brake operated by a piston and cylinder mechanism, the fluid supply to which is controlled by an electromagnetically operated valve. The circuit to the valve is prepared, after the closing (manually or from a timing drum) of contacts 8, through a control element C and is finally completed by closure of a switch 19, 20 actuated by the movement of the receptacle itself. The element C includes a shaft 1 driven by a pilot motor and carrying two conductor segments 2, 3 of different sizes which coact with stationary brushes 9, 10. On closing the contacts 8, a circuit is completed through contacts 6, 4; 3, 10; line 15 and relay 16. Contacts 13, 14 close to maintain a circuit for the relay 16 through contacts 6, 4; 2, 9 and line 12 when the smaller segment 3 leaves the brush 10. The closing of the contacts 13, 14 also prepares a circuit to the switch 19, 20, relay 23 and winding of the brake-operating valve V. This circuit is completed by a striking pin 21 on the receptacle engaging the contacts 19, 20. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the receptacle is rotated in alternately opposite directions by the reversal of its driving-motor which is effected through reversing contacts on the shaft 1, and the arrangement ensures that the circuit to the brake valve shall be completed and the brake applied only if the receptacle has not completed the major portion of its movement in one direction. A modification is described for use with machines wherein reversal is effected through a clutch or belt shifting device.
