473,012. Treatment of seeds and growing plants; germinating-appliances ; heating systems. LUND, H. H. B. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 35897. [Classes 6 (ii) and 58] [Also in Group XIII] A soil-less cultivation cabinet, such as that described in Specification 472,873, for the germination of seeds and the growth of seedlings is provided with heating-apparatus comprising a heat source external to the cabinet and a sinuous pipe system located within the cabinet near the bottom, heat being supplied from the heat source to water circulated through the pipe system, and the latter lying generally in a plane which slopes slightly upwardly from. the point of introduction of water into the system up to the point of withdrawal of the water from the system. The closed cabinet is fitted with trays 2 on the upper ones of which liquid fertilizer from a trough 3 is sprinkled periodically. The outflow pipe of an external boiler 9 connects with the sinuous pipe or pipes 11 arranged in an inclined plane in the cabinet, the highest point of these pipes being connected by an inclined pipe 12A to the inflow pipe 8 of the boiler. Water lost from the system is replaced by liquid from the trough 3 which is connected to the pipe 8 by a pipe 7. To prevent air-locks a small pipe 13 extends above the level of the liquid in the trough 3. The rectangular copper boiler 9, Fig. 4, has three passages to receive the chimneys of three duplex burners 16 secured in an oil tank 17, fume caps 15 and an automatic wick-feed mechanism being provided.
