Abstract

472,638. Memorandum appliances. STANDARD REGISTER CO. March 25, 1936, No. 8929. Convention date, April 5, 1935. [Class 16] [Also in Groups XVI and XIX] Apparatus for forming separate packs from a zigzag pack of stationery that has been typed or written upon comprises means for co-operating with at least one of the strips to advance them in unison along a common path, guides for diverting the strips into separate paths, and receivers in which the strips are reformed into separate zigzag packs. The packs provide a separate copy of a series of forms for each department of a business. By reversing the feed, two or more packs can be re-assembled. In an alternative apparatus, some of the strips, for instance. interleaved carbons, are formed into separate rolls, and the others are formed into a single or separate packs. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a set of shelves 5, supported at the rear of a typewriter-table 1, is provided with standards 6 carrying adjustable arms 7 which are connected by rods 8 carrying a guideplate 9 formed with slots 12. A pack, consisting of paper strips 15, 13 and a carbon strip 14, is placed in a tray 4, the strips are fed as an assembly around the platen 3, the strips 13, 14 are passed through the slots 12, and the strip 15 is led over the end of the guide-plate. During operation of the typewriter, the ends of strips fall on to the shelves and form separate packs 15<1>, 14<1>, 13<1>. Apparatus similar to that described above may be constructed as a separate unit comprising a motor-driven stripfeed roller preferably having pins for engaging perforations in the strips. The apparatus may be provided with an automatic device for stopping the motor if the strips jam in the guideslots. The stop-device may consist of a pivoted plate adapted, when the strips accumulate on the guide-plate, to rock and thereby open the circuit of the motor. The feed-roller may be arranged at the top of the guide-plate and co-operate with all the strips, or may be arranged below the guide-plate and co-operate with one of the strips. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 5, the strip assembly is fed from a tray 40 by means of a feed-roller 38 which is driven by a hand-crank 39 or a motor. The strips are separated and passed between guide-rods 36, the paper strips and carbon strips forming separate packs on trays 33, 34 respectively. To ensure re-folding of the strips, the guiderods 36 are secured to a vibratory frame 35 which is operated by a link in connection with the shaft of the feed-roller. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 7, the strip assembly passes over a guide-plate 48, and the carbon strips are wound on rollers 29, and the paper strips are reformed into a single pack 49, or separate packs. The rollers 29 are connected by a chain 46 to a driving-shaft 45. Specifications 372,980 and 409,162 are referred to.
