Abstract
471,881. Making bands for smallarms. FROMMER, R. VON. Dec. 11, 1935, Nos. 34408 and 34409. Void. Convention dates, Dec. 11, 1934 and Feb. 22, 1935. [Class 83 (ii)] Rings or bands for smallarms are produced by sheet-metal working operations from sheet iron in plate or tubular form. Rings so produced may serve to receive the sling, to attach the stock to the barrel, or to secure the bayonet or other part. A sheet metal member 1, Fig. 4, is stamped to form projections 4, 5, and is formed with slits 2, 3, the metal 6 between which is pressed out of the plane of the strip 1 and its edges curved. The projection 5 is pierced and the edges bent inwardly, forming an aperture 7 which may be tapped to receive a screw for securing the completed ring. The strip 1 is bent to ring form and the ends welded. The part 6 receives the sling, this part being omitted in a modification. The edges of the ring may be beaded to impart stiffness. In a further modification a ring 10, Fig. 15, is produced by a series of steps similar to that shown in Fig. 4, and is then shrunk, welded, or soldered on to a ring 9. Three or more tubular sections may be so assembled. A further form of ring comprises an outer tubular part 11, Fig. 28, in which is inserted a member produced by bending a perforated blank, shown in Fig. 24, along the lines 23, 24, 25, this member providing a recess 27 to receive the barrel, and a hole 20 through which passes a pin for fastening a bayonet. An extension 26 is perforated to receive a pin which facilitates piling the firearms in the form of a pyramid. In a further modification, a ring 28, Fig. 32, is bent up from a flat blank, and has spaced, tongues 29, 30 between which a tubular member 38 is inserted, the protruding ends, reduced to pass through apertures in the tongues, being spun over to retain the ends of the ring. A sling ring is received by the perforation 41.
