Abstract

Alumina powder obtained by grinding industrially produced hydrate of alumina and heating the ground hydrate to 600--900 DEG C. is used in the production of lakes, for instance, with alizarin colours.ALSO:Alumina powder of great uniformity and fineness is obtained by grinding industrially produced hydrate of alumina and heating the ground hydrate at least to a temperature at which it glows to effect partial or complete dehydration thereof. Grinding of the hydrate, preferably in the wet state, may be effected in porcelain mills with flint stones, and temperatures below or above 1000 DEG C. may be used in the heating step. The product may be used as a polishing and grinding agent; in the ceramic industry as a constituent in the manufacture of stoneware and porcelain; or in the production of articles formed of pure alumina or alumina mixed with other highly fireproof oxides. The product obtained by heating the ground hydrate to 600--900 DEG C. may be employed in the production of lakes, for instance with alizarin colours.ALSO:In the production of articles formed of pure alumina or alumina mixed with other highly fireproof oxides, alumina powder is used which is obtained by grinding industrially produced hydrate of alumina and heating the ground hydrate to temperatures below or above 1000 DEG C. to effect partial or complete dehydration thereof.
