Abstract

Foodstuffs, and other perishable substances, e.g. animal organs for medicinal use, are preserved by freezing in flexible containers of rubber, rubber-coated fabric, or material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Cellophane," from which the air is expressed or exhausted so that the container conforms to the shape of the article to be cooled. Upon removal of the air, the container is hermetically sealed and immersed in, or sprayed with, the refrigerant, e.g. ammonia. Heat conducting materials, such as metal salts, may be incorporated in the material of the containers.
