Abstract
471,362. Automatic reclosing circuitbreakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and HUNTER, M. C. I. March 2, 1936, No. 6304. [Class 38 (v)] Clock-work actuation.-An automatically-reclosing breaker mechanism comprising in operative relation with a final operating mechanism for the breaker a rotatable member normally restrained from operation and adapted in'response to the release of breaker-tripping means, to rotate and thereby actuate the operating mechanism so as to effect resetting of the trip means and reclosure of the breaker in a predetermined cycle, has the rotatable member connected to the operating mechanism through means enabling the resetting part of the cycle to take place during less amount of rotation of the member than that during which the reclosure part of the cycle occurs. As adapted to the breaker described in Specification 432,581, tripping causes a rod 27 to be moved upwards, so moving a roller 23 clear of a crank 2 on a shaft 1. The resulting expansion of spring 16 raises a platform 14 and, by means of a pair of pulleys 12 and a rope 9, causes clockwise rotation of a pulley 6 which is in driving engagement with shaft 1 by means of a pawl 18 and single-tooth ratchet 21. The crank 2 carries a pin 30 taking in a block 31 slidable in a, slot 37 defined by arms 32 of a link 33, which is pivoted at 34 and has pivoted to it at 36 the link 35 connected to the main mechanism of the breaker. During a single complete revolution of pin 30, link 35 is first lifted to reset the trip mechanism and then lowered to reclose the breaker. Due to the sliding connection and to the location of pin 30 midway of the slot 37, link 33 attains its upper position in less than half a revolution of the pin, as shown at 30a, and rotates through an angle A. On further rotation of 30, link 33 retraces its movement and link 35, which had been moved to position 35a, is drawn downwards. The upward movement of link 35 is restrained by a dashpot 38. The arrangement of the pulley 6 and its winding means is substantially as in the prior Specification abovementioned, but the spring may be replaced by a weight.
