Abstract
Ash-melting gas-producers are blown with a superheated mixture of oxygen and steam, or oxygen and carbon dioxide, the mixture p being heated to between 300 and 800 DEG C. When ores or residues containing volatilizable products such as zinc, lead, tin, phosphorus, or potassium are added, the metals are volatilized. By feeding the producers with agglomerates of calcium phosphates and fuel with a silicious flux phosphorus is recovered. The steam is replaced by carbon dioxide when it is desired to obtain gases formed almost entirely of carbon monoxide. An excess of steam may be employed, and any undecomposed in the fusion zone will oxidize the phosphorus to form phosphorus pentoxide. Specification 229,331, [Class 72], is referred to.ALSO:Ash-melting gas-producers are blown with a superheated mixture of oxygen and steam, or oxygen and carbon dioxide, the mixture being heated to between 300 and 800 DEG C. If metallic oxides of iron or nickel agglomerated with fuel are added to the charge, the metal is extracted and collects with the slag. When ores or residues containing volatilizable products such as zinc, lead, tin, or potassium are added, the metals are volatilized. The steam is replaced by carbon dioxide when it is desired to obtain gases formed almost entirely of carbon monoxide. An excess of steam may be employed, and any undecomposed in the fusion zone is decomposed by the iron to yield a high proportion of hydrogen. Specification 229,331, [Class 72], is referred to.
