[Class 29] The projecting end or ends of the ice cells described in the parent Specification are heated to release the ice blocks. Thus, the lower ends of the cells may be provided with jackets e through which make-up or condenser cooling water or compressed refrigerant vapour may be passed. Alternatively, the projections may be electrically heated. In another arrangement, in which the cells are enclosed by an insulating casing m, Fig. 3, and are provided with jackets l having refrigerant inlet and outlet pipes i, k respectively, the cells are formed with false bottoms having inlet and outlet pipes o, p respectively for the water. In order to prevent the formation of ice at the upper ends of the cells, the vapour outlet pipes k are arranged so that a vapour space is provided above the liquid refrigerant. Further, to produce clear ice, a current of air is injected by nozzles h into the cells. In a further arrangement, the false bottoms of the cells are supplied with water through a byepass on the condenser cooling water pipe, a valve being provided on the pipe to control the flow through the byepass.
