Abstract
470,740. Spears and spear-throwers. LINES, A. March 8, 1937, No. 6749. [Classes 132 (ii) and 132 (iii)] The butt end of a spear for recreational purposes is provided with a socket in which a rest on the head of a thrower engages articularly during the early portion of the throwing motion, and which is disengaged therefrom during the latter portion of the motion. The rest may be of inverted U-shape, Fig. 6, the vertical portions d being secured to the sides of the thrower and the front edge c of the horizontal portion f engaging in a V-shaped socket in the butt of the spear. According to a modification, Fig. 11, the rest d may be formed of wood secured to the end of the thrower by screws or the like, or it may be an integral part thereof. According to further modifications, the rest may be J-shaped, the leg portion being secured to the end of the upper surface of the thrower, or such a shaped member may be formed of circular material screwed into the end of the thrower and engaging with a conical socket in the spear-butt.
