[Class 37] A tuning indicator for wireless receivers or the like comprises a movable translucent dial having indicia thereon and a translucent slotted screen situated between the dial and a lightsource, focusing means being associated with the slot in the screen for producing a sharply defined light-image upon the dial. The shaft 7 for varying the tuning condensers 3 of the receiving set is geared to a rotary support 13 to which is attached the translucent dial 14. Light from a lamp 19 is directed through a slot 26 in a translucent screen 25 and is brought to a focus as a line of light on the dial 14 by a glass rod 21, situated at a distance from the dial equal to slightly less than one half the radius of the rod. The width of the slot 26 is approximately equal to the radius of the rod 21. Owing to the translucent nature of the screen 25, the background is generally illuminated and no shadows are cast thereon. The area illuminated is, however, restricted by a further translucent disc 27 provided with arcuate openings staggered radially and each arranged to co-operate with a set of indicia carried by the dial 14, the sets being arranged on the dial in concentric circles, one circle for each wave band. By this means, the aperture in the screen 27 positioned behind the slot 26 in the screen 25 defines a background area for the bright image focused by the glass rod 21 which' is more brightly illuminated than the remaining background area which is defined by the window in the supporting frame 20, and the aperture also restricts the length of the bright image to the indicia relative to the wave band in use. The screen 27 may be rotated to bring a different aperture into operative relation with the dial by operating the wave-change switch 34, the shaft 32 of which is connected to the support for the screen by a crank arm 31 and link 30. The rotary dial 14 is guided by front projections 35 and rear supports 37, carried by the frame 20.
