Abstract

A powdered food is prepared by reducing ripe bananas to a paste which is mixed with cooked chestnut and, if desired, fresh milk, flours of cereals or cereal biscuits or mashed leguminous plants or fruits, and desiccated under vacuum at not above 40-45 DEG C., reduced to powder and packed in tins or other receptacles which are subjected to high vacuum to remove air, filled with nitrogen or other inert gas under pressure and hermetically sealed. The powder before packing may be treated with ultra-violet rays to increase its vitamin content. The receptables after filling are closed with the exception of a small aperture and are subjected to the vacuum treatment in an enclosure to which inert gas is subsequently supplied until a pressure slightly above atmospheric is reached. The receptacles are then withdrawn and sealed, by soldering &c. as quickly as possible. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preservation of any vitamin-containing alimentary substances which may be mixed with other substances, and which are prepared cold and introduced into receptables which are subjected to high vacuum to eliminate air, and then filled with inert gas and sealed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
