Abstract

Moulded fibre-containing articles of high electrical resistance and heat stability are prepared by impregnating fibrous material having long fibres with an aqueous solution of a phenol-alcohol. There may also be present a small quantity of catalyst, e.g. ammonia, or such other phenol-formaldehyde resin as is capable of binding formaldehyde. In modifications, the fibrous material is impregnated successively in either order, or simultaneously with an alcoholic solution of a phenol-formaldehyde resin and with an aqueous solution of a phenol-dialcohol. Examples are given.
