469,143. Protective cut-out arrangements. CHELLIS, G. F. March 9, 1936, No. 7029. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The fuse 5 in the unearthed line of the supply to the apparatus 3 is adapted, when the insulation of 3 breaks down, to be melted by a heating coil 7, which is energized by the secondary 6 of a variable-ratio current transformer having its primary in the earthing conductor 4 of the apparatus-frame. The wire 5 is surrounded by a refractory insulating tube 8 on which the heating coil 7 is wound, the heater being covered by layers of asbestos tape or an asbestos jacket 9. With a polyphase supply, the current transformer has three secondaries, one for each phase. The fuse may, alternatively, open the holding circuit of a breaker, and may be replaced by a fluid capsule or bimetal strip controlling a holding or trip circuit. The Specification refers also to interrupting the whole of the supply from a power transformer to a faulty distribution system, one terminal of the secondary of the power transformer being earthed through the primary of the current transformer, and the other terminal being connected to the line carrying the fuse.
