Abstract

A stick of solid lubricant composed principally of wax is encased in an easily attritive or tearable metal sheath, and is used for cleaning, deoxidizing, and lubricating hot metal parts, and as a vitalizer and flux for promoting flow of hot metals as used in type casting, composing, and like machines. The lubricant may consist mainly of japanese vegetable wax with relatively small proportions of paraffin wax, carnauba wax, bees-wax, together with 5--25 per cent ammonium chloride. The sheath may be of lead or tin, or of an alloy of lead and tin, or lead, tin and antimony. The sheath will melt when applied to a hot working part. Weakening lines may be provided around the sheath to enable it to be stripped off, or the sheath may be marked out in sections.
