[Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] A moving optical image is thrown on the photoelectric screen of an image converter discharge tube and a deflecting field is provided such that a stationary or intermittently-moving image appears on the fluorescent screen. A second deflecting field at right-angles to the first may be provided, and successive stationary images may thus be obtained side-by-side. The image of a continuously-moving film may be converted into a succession of stationary images giving the appearance of a moving picture. Conversely a moving scene may be recorded on a film, and the image may be diminished and its rate of movement reduced to enable the recording film to be run at a slower speed. Kinematic processes may be investigated, for example examination of a rotating wheel, and separate phases of the process may be reproduced simultaneously on the screen.
