Abstract

Compounds of the formula <FORM:0466714/IV/1> (in which R is a radicle of the benzene or naphthalene series which term includes partially hydrogenated naphthalene derivatives and alkyl benzenes in which the alkyl is cycloalkyl) which contain a halogen atom or a sulphonic acid group in a BETA-position of the benzene nucleus of the anthraquinone nucleus free from amino groups are treated in any sequence with mercaptans of the formula R.SH and with sulphonating agents. The dyestuffs so obtained give green dyeings on animal fibres. In examples, 1.4.6.-trichloranthraquinone is condensed with (1) p-toluidine, (2) 5.6.7.8.-tetrahydro-2-aminonaphthalene, (3) 1-amino-4-cyclohexylbenzene, and (4) 2-aminonaphthalene, and the product in each case is reacted with 1-mercapto-4-methylbenzene and then sulphonated; (5) 1.4-di-p-toluidino-6-chloranthraquinone is sulphonated and condensed with 1-methyl-4-mercaptobenzene, or (6) condensed with 2-mercaptonaphthalene and sulphonated; (7) the sodium salt of 1.4-di-p-toluidinoanthraquinone - 6 - sulphonic acid is condensed with 1-mercapto-4-methylbenzene and the product may be sulphonated. Solvents used in the condensation with the mercaptan are aniline, pyridine, and amyl alcohol.
