[Class 87 (ii)] In order to facilitate the collapse of a segmental former for tyre building, the shaft is connected by a parallel linkage or other parallel system to a segment 11 so that its axis b, normally in the geometrical centre of the former, can be moved prior to collapse, into the position a. The linkage is operated by a lever 23 having a catch 24 provided with a handle 29. A rubber pad 30 may be provided on the shaft-supporting bracket 17 to cushion the fall of the hinged segments 12, 13. In some cases, the segments are removable.
