465,776. Surgical optical instruments. CAMERON, W. J. Dec. 23, 1936, No. 35276. [Class 81 (ii)] An illuminating handle for surgical and like instruments comprises a hollow body 5 having an angularly off-set extension 6 in which is mounted a reciprocable socket 7, carrying a lamp 8 which may be moved into or out of the extension 6 by manipulation of a control slide 9 connected to the socket by hinged conducting members 34, 37. The lamp terminals are connected to leads 25, 28 by a telescopic lead 22, 23, 24 and the members 34, 37 the member 34 having sliding contact with the lead 28, which is provided with an indentation 30 at which the circuit of the lamp is broken when the lamp is retracted sufficiently for the end 36 of the member 34 to come opposite thereto. An instrument, e.g. a speculum 18 may be secured by means of a split band 13 tightened by a lever and cam 16 15 and mounted on a tubular base 10 secured to the extension 6 by a pin-and-bayonet slot.
