465,403. Printing-surfaces. ULLSTEIN AKT.-GES., BERK, J., and STRUNK, E. Aug. 6, 1935, No. 22156. [Class 100 (ii)] Printing types, plates, and other units are produced by pouring, jet casting, or spraying into a mould containing a matrix, synthetic plastic materials which soften when heated and harden on cooling such as acetyl-cellulose and products of polymeric hydrocarbons, or synthetic products which, under heat and pressure, are first plastic and then become hard and infusible such as phenol-formaldehyde and urea-formaldehyde. Half-tone or other printing plates may be incorporated in the plates during the casting &c. operation. The units may be produced in casting machines in which mechanically operated means are provided for changing the matrices. When casting into a long mould, several melting pots, or one pot having a number of outlets may be employed, or the outlet and mould may be movable relatively to each other.
