Abstract

465,300. Light - current relays. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ROSE, W. R. Feb. 5, 1936, No. 3429. [Class 38 (v)] A relay of the type in which the armature is held in either of two positions without energization of either of two operating coils, comprises two magnetic circuits each composed of an operating coil and core and a yoke and armature, the said magnetic systems being disposed side by side and the two armatures being interlinked by a rocker extending from one to the other and pivoted about an axis passing at right angles through a line drawn parallel and midway between the axes of the operating coils, the armature last operated being held in this position by interaction between an arm carried by the rocker and extending between the magnetic assemblies and a flat bowed spring, compressed between a V-notch at one end and a further flat spring at the other. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the two operating systems each consisting of winding 1 core 3 and L-shaped yoke 2 are mounted side-by-side on a bar 7, the armatures, pivoted on knife-edges formed on the yokes, being interlinked by a rocking member 9 pivoted on a pin 10 carried by a member 6 extending between the operating systems. Carried by the member 9 is an arm 14 the forked end of which engages the side of a bowed spring 13 supported between a V-notch formed in the upper part of the member 6 and a slot in a pin 17 slidably mounted in the lower part of the member 6 and acted upon by an adjustable blade spring 20. Thus when either armature is attracted by energization of its corresponding electromagnet it rocks the bar 9 to cause positive release of the other armature. Also during this movement the bowed spring 13 is moved by the arm 14 to its opposite bowed position and by reaction retains the armatures in their displaced positions. Either or both of the armatures may control contact springs. Adjustments to provide for variation in the core lengths and eccentricity of the pin 10 are provided. Specification 354,847 is referred to.
