Abstract

464,900. Implements and machines for working land; mowing machines. DUFOUR, L. Oct. 3, 1936, No. 26875. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1935. [Classes 6 (i) and 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A tractor comprising two parts one of which includes the main frame 1, the front wheels 6, and the driver's seat, and has pivoted to it on a transverse axis the other part forming a lever with the power unit 13 carried by the front arm of the lever, is characterized by a selflocking device for rigidly connecting the two parts together in at least two positions into which the pivoted part is moved either by the weight of one of its arms or by the rearing reaction caused when the forward or reverse speed of the power unit is engaged. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the power unit 13 is pivoted to the main frame 1 about a shaft 24 and is provided with a change-speed gear 15 controlled by a gear-lever 17. A spring loaded locking pin 28, carried by the main frame and operated by a pedal 33, is adapted to engage with either of two notches 26, 27 in a sector 25 fixed to the power unit, so as to lock the power unit to the main frame in either of the positions in Figs. 1 and 2. The rear end of the power unit is formed with a flange 20 to which may be detachably secured either (1) a beam 21, Fig. 1, carrying a towing hook 21<1> and a safety wheel 22 to prevent the tractor from rearing, (2) a plough attachment 36, Figs. 2 and 3, (3) a mowing-machine beam 44, Fig. 4, (4) a rotary cultivator, or any other suitable implement. The plough beam 39 is pivoted at 37 to the arm 36 which is formed with an abutment 38 beyond the pivot, so that if the power unit is rocked counter-clockwise about its pivot 24 from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that shown in Fig. 3, the abutment 38 lifts the plough clear of the ground. In order to raise the plough the tractor is stopped, the pin 28 is released from the notch 27 by pressure on the pedal 33, and the reverse gear is engaged. The reaction causes the power unit to rotate counter-clockwise and lift the plough until the pin 28 engages in the upper notch 26 and locks the plough in the raised position. The reaction may be increased by braking the driving wheels 19, the whole of the engine power being then used to rotate the power unit about the shaft 24. To lower the plough the pin 28 is released, the brakes are applied and forward speed is engaged. The mowing attachment shown in Fig. 4 comprises a connecting rod 45 driven by a shaft enclosed in the beam 44 and connected to the power take-off of the power unit. The power unit 13 and beam 44 oscillate freely on the pivot shaft 24, a trailing wheel 49 being provided. The locking pin 28 is completely withdrawn from contact with the sector 25, the pedal 33 being rotated until its lever 32 has passed a dead-centre position as shown, so that the spring acting on the pin 28 holds it in this retracted position. A hand-lever 48 is provided for raising the coutter bar 46 clear of the ground for travel on roads.
