Abstract

464,411. Photographic statuary reproduction. JEFFREYS, S. T., and PETTY, H.J. Oct. 16, 1935, No. 28626. [Class 98 (ii)] A record of the shape of an object is obtained by an apparatus including a projector throwing a sharp line on the surface and an intermittently operated photographic camera set at an acute angle with the projector and moving rectilinearly relatively to the object. The recording apparatus comprises a projector 3 and a camera 4 angular spaced from each other and mounted upon a platform 5. The beam of light 8 is interrupted by a straight edged screen so that a sharp shadow is thrown on both the subject 1 and a depth indicator 9. The platform 5 is moved horizontally by a threaded rod 11 rotated by a pinion wheel 12, the latter also rotating a pinion wheel 13, a squared rod 14, and pinions 15, 16, to give synchronous operation' of the camera mechanism. The reproduction apparatus comprises a tool carrier 21 which is moved on vertical guides 22 by a threaded shaft 23 and pinion 24. The cutting tool 25 is mounted on a sliding member 26 which is moved by a handle 26a by means of pinions 27, shaft 28 and a rack and pinion, a pointer 31 being attached to the tool and mounted near the surface of a control screen. The block of material is mounted on a sliding table 32 which is controlled in its horizontal movement by the handle 34. The pointer 31 is caused to follow the outline 38 by rotation of the handle 26a, the cutting tool 25 inscribing a line corresponding in the block 36.
