Abstract

[Class 46] [Also in Group XXI] A well screen is formed by uniformly winding wire 24 helically around a series of rods 20, Figs. 3 and 4, positioned to outline a cylinder, or around longitudinal ribs 22, Fig. 8, on an apertured cylinder 21, the wire and rods or ribs having converging sides meeting at an acute-angled edge and being arranged with said edges sunk one within the other and fused together at each crossing point. In Fig. 3, the projecting ends of the rods enter tubular sockets 27, 28, and are welded thereto through openings 29. In Fig. 11, a drive point 32 has a collar 33 fitting inside the rods 20 and welding metal is applied round and between the rods about the collar; the other ends of the rods are welded at 35 to a collar 34.
