Abstract
463,968. Actuation of switches. TISDELL, T. A., RAE, W., and AMAL, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1935, No. 27815. Addition to 442,387. [Class 38 (v)] A switch of the type described in the parent Specification comprises a lock barrel 14 fixed to a knurled operating member 3 and by means of an extension 15 and spring-pressed pin 16 to a sleeve 19 connected to a shaft 21. A disc 25 is splined on the shaft 21 and carries driving pins 26 carrying a contact disc 29 urged by springs 35 against the end of the casing which bears contacts 36 connected in the ignition circuit of a motor vehicle. When a key 49 is withdrawn, the wards 47 of the look engage in a slot 48 in a sleeve 12 fixed by a screw 10 to a sleeve 9 which can slide but not rotate in a casing 6 due to the engagement of screw 10 in a slot 11. If the key 49 is inserted the lock barrel can be turned either by the key or by the member 3 to turn the contact disc 29 from the locked off position into the unlocked off position and finally into the on position. Movement between the last two positions is independent of the key since the wards 47 are then situated in a wide slot 50 in the sleeve 12. The shaft 21 is connected to the inner wire 39 of a Bowden wire connected at its other end to a remotely positioned retractive switch (not shown) controlling the starting motor. This switch is operated by pulling the member 3 to the left thus moving the lock barrel 14, sleeve 19, shaft 21 and sleeve 9 against the action of a spring 42. This can only be done when the shaft 21 has been rotated to the unlocked off position or to the on position as only on these positions are splines on the shaft 21 opposite to segmental enlargements (not shown) of an opening 22 in the casing 6.
