Cellulose acetate compositions suitable for use in the production of transparent or translucent sheets or films comprise an addition of a urea-formaldehyde condensation product in the proportion of about one-half of one up to seven or eight per cent calculated on the weight of the cellulose acetate. Plasticizers such as phenyl, butyl, or tri-cresyl phosphate, butyl phthalate, or a vinyl acetate, may be added to the composition. In an example, a composition is made by mixing a urea-formaldehyde condensation product, vinyl acetate, tri-phenyl phosphate, gum acacia varnish, and cellulose acetate. The composition is dissolved in acetone, methyl acetate or other solvent and formed into films or sheets. The films are of increased tenacity, pliability, and fire resistant properties.
