Abstract

462,777. Reinforced concrete. PEERLESS, T. H., and LONDON PASSENGER TRANSPORT BOARD. Feb. 28, 1936, No. 5989. [Class 20 (iv)] A positioning device for reinforcement bars or the like in concrete or other moulded material, comprises a plate of sheet metal which is serrated around its periphery and radially divided from its centre in such a manner that a central opening is formed with inwardly-directed tongues 3A, 4B, adapted to be bent out of the plane of the plate and to grip a bar or the like surrounded by the opening. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the outer periphery of the device is of star shape and the tongues 3A, 3B are bent alternately to the right and left. The device may be arranged to support reinforcement bars 5 above a foundation 7 as shown in Fig. 4, or from shuttering, in which case the periphery of the plate may be adapted to engage the shuttering on both sides of the structure. A plurality of devices may be used to support a mesh or network reinforcement, and to enable a device to be engaged with one of the bars of such a reinforcement, the plate may be split radially, as shown at 2A, Fig: 1.
