Abstract

Colourations upon filaments, yarns, fabrics, straws, sheets, foils and the like made of or containing cellulose esters or ethers are made fast to rubbing by heat treatment at above 150 DEG C. Specified colourations treated are dyeings with indigo, N : N<1>-dimethylindigo, Ciba blue 2B, Ciba heliotrope B, thioindigo, Ciba bordeaux B, Ciba green G, Alizarin indigo 3R, anthraquinone vat dyes, 1 : 4-di(methylamino)-, 1-b -hydroxyethylamino-, 1 : 2-dioxy-5 : 8 - di(methylamino)-, 1 - hydroxy - 4 - amino-, and 1 : 4-diamino-anthraquinones, 2 : 4-dinitro-, 2 : 4-dinitro-4<1>-hydroxy- and 2-nitro-4-chloro-4<1>-ethoxy-diphenylamines, 4-nitro-2-methoxybenzene - 1 - azo - dimethyl- and diethyl-anilines and azo dyes produced upon the fibre. The cellulose ester or ether materials may contain also pigments, fillers, fire retardants, plasticizers or sizes. The heating may be effected by contact with heated elements, hot air or wet or dry steam. The following examples are specified: (1) a mixed fabric of cellulose acetate (75 per cent) and cotton (25 per cent), dyed by applying leucoindigo from a bath containing ammonia and hydrosulphite and drying at 50--65 DEG C. to oxidize the leuco compound, is heated for 15 minutes in air at 160 DEG C.; (2) cellulose acetate staple fibres, dyed with a mixture of 1 : 4-di-(methylamino)- and 1-b -hydroxyethylaminoanthraquinones and 2 : 4-dinitro-4<1>-hydroxydiphenylamine from a bath containing soap and soda ash, are rinsed in hot water and dried for 15 minutes at 150--160 DEG C.; the resulting brown dyeing is fast to perspiration and on using the fibres in association with animal fibres the mixed material may be fulled or scoured without bleeding of the colour. The Specification as open to inspection under Sec. 91 comprises also the fixing of direct cotton and acid dyes upon the cellulose esters or ethers by the heat treatment. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
