Abstract

462,552. Tents. NUTTALL, J. L. Sept. 16, 1935, No. 25589. [Class 20 (i)] The fabric 1 of a tent is reinforced by the insertion of a wire cable 3, which is covered to prevent deterioration by weather, within seams 2 formed along the edges of the fabric, loops being provided at the corners for the reception of eyelets 13 to which are attached guy ropes 14. As shown in Fig. 3 for a ridge tent, the wire cable is formed at one end with a loop 5 for attachment to a tent pole, then passed through a seam (not shown) in the middle of the fabric to provide a ridge-supporting portion 7, and through the seams 2 at the edges and ends of the fabric, the other end of the cable with the end of the ridge-supporting portion being formed into a loop 8 for attachment to the other tent pole. Intermediate guy ropes 20 may be attached to D-shaped rings 19 held by tabs 21 stitched to the tent fabric, or such rings and tabs may replace the eyelets and loops at the corners of the tent. In bell tents, lengths of cable are inserted in seams in the body of the tent fabric, and have eyelets at their lower ends.
